A recent report in the Tampa Tribune notes that in Florida, which has been hit hard by the recession and housing collapse, healthcare remains one of the state's few economic bright spots. The report cites government statistics which predict the creation of three million new healthcare jobs over the next seven years.
In Florida and many other states, this demand will be fueled by an increasingly aging population that needs specialized medical services.
The Tribune noted that of the 20 most rapidly growing job categories in Florida, six of them are in the healthcare field - and the fastest growing of all of them is medical assisting, which is expected to require about 1,300 new professionals per year.
