According to Pennsylvania's Blair Dispatch newspaper, the Indiana County Technology Center is one of many local educational facilities experiencing a significant rise in interest for allied health professions in general.
While the nationwide nursing shortage is widely cited in national media stories, healthcare providers are also experiencing strong need for support staff, medical assistants and other trained professionals.
Students who train to be medical assistants reportedly become prepared to handle other duties such as phlebotomy, EKG work and medical billing. The report also noted that of 11 recent graduates from a medical assistant program, 10 were working in the field while the other one had been affected by a disability.
