Some parts of the country, particularly rural ones, are experiencing enough of a shortage of skilled healthcare workers that the federal government is stepping in to help.
A recent report on HotSpotJournal.com cites a Department of Labor grant that will spend nearly $2 million over the next three years to train healthcare workers in Arizona's Pinal County, as well as in the Tucson and Phoenix areas.
The grant is part of a broader federal program that selected grant recipients last fall from a pool of several hundred applicants.
Along with training more medical assistants, the federal grant funds will reportedly help train more medical sonographers and coders and billers. Demand for all four of these job categories has grown substantially in recent years.
If you're interested in pursuing a career as a medical assistant, you'll be training for a field that offers a wider variety of opportunities than you may expect and which offers considerable room for growth.
