With little economic relief in sight, an increasingly broad range of workers are seeking jobs as medical assistants and other types of healthcare positions.
A report in the Springfield (Illinois) State Journal-Register notes that one local hospital recently laid off several dozen workers - mostly managers - while hiring was still underway for other positions in the industry.
"People are doing a complete career change. We're seeing them all over the board. We're seeing people right out of high school going into MA (medical assistant) programs. We're seeing them in mid-career," Angie Tippey of Southern Illinois School of Medicine told the newspaper.
The newspaper cited higher interest than usual for local healthcare job fairs, and also noted that some local organizations and health providers are currently planning to invest over $500,000 this year in efforts to attract more nursing professionals as well.
If you're interested in training to become a medical assistant, you will have the opportunity to enter a field that has been increasingly growing and in demand in recent years.
