A recent survey of healthcare leaders finds that a majority of them would recommend careers in the industry to their children.

In the 2009 HealthLeaders Media Industry Survey, nearly 80 percent of industry leaders say they would recommend healthcare careers, with many citing factors like the personal reward of helping others and the solid long-term demand for skilled professionals.

Of the 20 percent who said they would not recommend healthcare careers to their children, some of the reasons provided were a poor balance between work and a personal life, as well as the overall "broken" nature of the current system.

Also in the survey, just over 87 percent of the industry leaders said they were either very satisfied or satisfied with their current careers.

Healthcare has been widely seen as a fairly recession-proof industry in the current recession. If you're interested in the industry, one way to get started may be to train as a medical assistant. This field offers considerable room for growth and expansion, and a wide variety of programs are available, from traditional classes to online medical assistant courses.
